Larry Bass, producer of 'Dancing With The Stars', has said he has "no interest" in contestants' private lives after one-time contestant Johnny Ward claimed he and his former girlfriend Emily Barker felt pressure to be in a relationship.
‘Fair City’ actor Ward, who appeared on the dance show last year, claimed he and his pro dance partner Barker, who met on the RTÉ One show, felt pressured to be together by the show.
But producer Bass told the Irish Independent that it was none of his business what contestants got up to in their own time.
“I don’t know where Johnny is coming from,” he said. “Anyone who knows anything about our show knows it’s all about dancing, it’s not ‘Big Brother’.
“We have no interest in what people’s lives are like outside the show.”
He added that he had “no idea whatsoever” of where Ward’s comment came from.
Ward told newspaper reporters that he and Barker had split, but that they had felt pressure to be together in the first place.
“Stuff happened and when we did the ‘Dancing With The Stars’ tour, it was great,” Ward said. “But it was like this relationship was forced upon us.
“In ‘Dancing With The Stars’, Jesus, you are asked to do crazy things, to make out things are going on between you and your partner, because it is a reality TV show as much as a dance contest.
“She was pretty much forced by ‘Dancing With The Stars’ to come out and say we were together.
“But nothing was ever really official, and I never really saw her during season four because she takes it so seriously, and then it ended.”
