Great Irish Bake Off finalist Cathy McKenna already inundated with wedding cake orders for 2016
The ovens are already on for the final of The Great Irish Bake Off on Sunday, but baker Cathy McKenna is already set up for the New Year whether she wins or loses the competition.
The Monaghan dessert-queen is already inundated with wedding cake orders for 2016, following her success on the TV3 show.
Originally inspired to enter the competition after her friend asked her to bake a wedding cake, Cathy admitted she’s thrilled with the number of orders which have come in as she battles it out on GIBO each week.
“One of the main reasons why I applied to the Bake Off was that I agreed to do my friend’s wedding cake. I threw myself into practising it and then I saw the application so I put myself forward for that,” Cathy told The Irish Mirror.
“I’ve had more orders already and I’m hoping after the final airs I will have even more.”
The baker will produce a forest-themed wedding cake on tomorrow night’s final, which she hopes will see her crowned the winner by judges Paul Kelly and Lily Higgins.
“My cake is quite unusual. [Paul Kelly] commented that it is a cake that I would make for myself if I was getting married to Robin Hood in a forest,” she said.
“My eventual goal is to be able to make a living from baking and confectionary – whether that will lead me on the road of opening a café, bakery or working at home, I don’t know yet.
Bakers Clare Ryan and Emer Hough will also battle it out for the coveted Great Irish Bake Off crown in tomorrow night’s show.
