The iconic Dark Hedges, made famous by Game of Thrones, have been damaged overnight.

It is the latest in a number of problems that have besieged the north Antrim road prompting it now to be earmarked for special protection.

A tree fell at the famous tourist attraction in the early hours of Wednesday morning blocking the Bregagh Road, near Armoy.

In February there was outrage after road markings were mistakenly painted on the now world famous road. They were removed the next day.

Meanwhile in April two Dark Hedges trees uprooted by Storm Gertrude were turned into doors with carvings depicting scenes from the hit HBO series which is filmed in locations across Northern Ireland.
