Actress Natalie Dormer has opened up about her success on HBO’s Game of Thrones, but said her past experience has taught her that it can all come crashing down even if you might feel you’re “home and dry”.

The star, who played Margaery Tyrell for four seasons of the hit show, opened up about a period in which she was promised a three-film movie deal following her role in Casanova but her hopes were dashed when it never materialised.

“I was properly unemployed for 10 months – temping in an office again to pay for Christmas presents," said Dormer speaking to The Telegraph.

"That was the best lesson I’ve ever learnt: you’re never home and dry.”

The British star said she is finding it difficult to say goodbye to the cast of Game of Thrones, with whom she has grown particularly close throughout the past five seasons.

“When it does come to an end, I will always be sad not to have those people in my life on a day-to-day basis. They become your family after six, seven, however many years,” she said.

The actress is currently putting her focus towards a new role, in a film she co-wrote with her Irish fiancé Anthony Byrne. Dormer will play a blind musician who overhears a murder.

“I’ve learnt so much about the mechanics of how a film is made. To see and appreciate that you’re a cog in a wheel of a much bigger thing happening in front of and behind the camera is a healthy thing for an actor. Now I’m just dying to get on set and tell the story,’ she said.

“It’s scary because we don’t have a lot of time. But nothing worth doing isn’t scary, right?”
