Coronation Street's Kylie Platt to die in dramatic Callum storyline
The nature of Paula Lane's departure from the Manchester soap has been kept under wraps for some time. It was thought that her character, Kylie Platt, and husband David (Jack P Shepherd) might head off into the sunset together or perhaps be sent to prison for killing evil drug dealer Callum Logan.
But it has been announced that Kylie is to die, leaving David devastated just as the couple finally find happiness.
The details of how she dies are being kept a secret, however, Kylie has been uncomfortable about letting an innocent dead man (Tony Stewart) take the blame for a crime that she committed.
Sarah Louise Platt (Tina O'Brien) helped sister-in-law Kylie hide Callum's dead body under the house after a dramatic showdown during the show's live episode in September 2015.
Lane's final episodes will air the week beginning Monday July 11 as Kylie suggests that the Platt family leave Weatherfield once and for all and put the events of the past year behind them. But their future plans are cut short by her unexpected death.
Lane said: “It was very emotional to film the scenes knowing that I would never return and her death has huge consequences for David and all the family.”
ITV have released images from an on-air promo which show Kylie packing her belongings into a car, but as the mood switches the vehicle is revealed to be a hearse surrounded by her devastated family and friends.
Lane is currently pregnant with her second child.
The show has also recently announced that from 2017 it will broadcast six episodes a week.
