Ryan Thomas is reportedly set to join the cast of Australian soap Neighbours.

The 33-year-old actor has played Jason Grimshaw on Coronation Street for the past 16 years. But now it has been claimed that Ryan is gearing up to swap Weatherfield for Erinsborough, after being offered a contract on the soap Down Under.

"Ryan's news may come as a bit of a surprise but people are confident he'll make a big splash on Neighbours," a source told the Daily Mirror newspaper. "He'll bring his Corrie fans with him and earn a new legion of fans along the away. He is just waiting on his visa. Then he'll be moving to Australia to film the show."

And it's not the only gig Ryan is reported to be taking on in Australia; it has also been claimed that the actor will appear on the new series of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!. He would be following in the footsteps of younger brother Adam, who starred on the 2016 series of the programme, and bosses are said to be convinced he will be just as much of a success on the show.

"Ryan would be superb in the jungle and there has never been a family member following a family member into the outback ever in all the series," an insider told The Sun.

"Fans would no doubt get behind him like they did Adam, and it'd be interesting to see if he reacts to the bushtucker trials in the same funny way."

It remains to be seen what would happen with Ryan's fledgling relationship with Lucy Mecklenburgh if he did move to Australia. However, things appear to be going from strength to strength with the pair, who met on Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls, with the actor sharing a sweet snap of his former The Only Way Is Essex star girlfriend at a family wedding in Lake Como, Italy, recently.
