Tailored for Elizabeth

CLEOPATRA was said to have been the face that launched a thousand ships and when Elizabeth Taylor played her 50 years ago, it was the film that launched a thousand dresses.

Taylor's status as a global fashion icon skyrocketed by the early Sixties and now, for the first time ever, her gowns, garb and gems, are being exhibited in the Newbridge Silverware Museum of Style Icons, in Newbridge, Co Kildare.

The exhibition starts this Tuesday and closes on August 25. Highlights from it include her headdress from Cleopatra as well as the gown she wore to Richard Burton's 50th birthday in London in 1975.

The British-American actress's pieces are part of a huge Hollywood Icons auction that takes place at Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills in October. The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor hasn't been seen anywhere else in the whole wide world until now.
