Sheeran, Gallagher and Stormzy lead Q Awards nominations

Ed Sheeran, Liam Gallagher and Stormzy are all up for three gongs at the ceremony.

British chart stars Ed Sheeran, Liam Gallagher and Stormzy will go head to head in the best solo artist category at the Q Awards.

The singers will compete against US stars St Vincent and Lana Del Rey for the coveted prize at the awards ceremony at Camden’s Roundhouse next month.

Sheeran, Gallagher and Stormzy are leading the nominations, with three nods each.

Singer-songwriter Sheeran is also up for best track for Shape Of You and best act in the world today.

Gallagher is nominated for best track for Wall Of Glass, and is in contention for best live act.

Grime superstar Stormzy, up for his first ever Q gongs, will vie for best album for Gang Signs & Prayer and best live act.

Singer-songwriter Lorde, punk duo Sleaford Mods and rap phenomenon Kendrick Lamar are up for two awards apiece.

Lamar and Sleaford Mods will battle it out for the prestigious best album gong for their respective hits DAMN and English Tapas.


They are up against Gorillaz, who are nominated for Humanz, their first album in seven years, Stormzy, and The xx for their UK number one album, I See You.

For the first time in the 27-year history of the awards, the public chose the shortlist from a longlist compiled by the Q magazine team.

Q editor Ted Kessler said: “Some people say that Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, but I disagree.

“I say that the Q Awards is the most wonderful time of the year and that 2017 is already looking like it’s going to be the best we’ve ever held.”


This year there will be a post-awards gig featuring Manic Street Preachers and Sleaford Mods.

Voting is open to the public in seven categories at until October 6.
