Musician Sharon Shannon has been angered by “horrid pushy man” who has been pretending to be her father at gigs around the country.

Sharon took to her Facebook to warn people that the imposter, who demands free drinks in every pub, is not her father IJ Shannon.

“This is my gorgeous Daddy. IJ Shannon. He is 87 years old,” Sharon wrote, sharing a picture with her dad IJ.

“There is a man going around Ireland pretending to be ‘Sharon Shannon’s father’. This imposter apparently plays the accordion and is a horrid pushy man,” she wrote.

Sharon revealed that her dad IJ doesn’t play the accordion like the man claiming to be related to the Shannons does at various venues around the country.

The man is thought to be in his sixties or early seventies.

“He demands free drink in every pub he goes into playing his accordion,” Sharon wrote.

“He has been seen many times in Spiddal and at various festivals all over the country.”

The musician warned her followers that if they spot the impersonator they should take a photograph and post it on her Facebook page.

“If anybody knows who this b****x is or if you have a photo of him, please post it up here. If you ever see him again, please take a photo and I will post it up here,” she wrote.

A commenter on the musician’s page revealed that they gave a lift to the man pretending to be a Shannon.

“Whilst on a week’s holiday in Ennis a few years back we gave a lift to a man... from Doolin to Kilfanora or somewhere like that who claimed to be Sharon Shannon’s father,” the fan wrote on the page.

”We gave him a lift because we were afraid he would get hit by a car as he was staggering all over the road. He has a melodeon with him,” they wrote.

Sharon’s Facebook status was shared more than 20,000 times before she deleted it from her page.
