'Shameful to make it all about you' - Belfast mother and daughter duo's dramatic X Factor bootcamp
A mother and daughter duo from Belfast faced a dramatic bootcamp on X Factor tonight.
Hayley (20) and Debye (40) Norton who perform as Descendance were told during their first audition to consider separating and allowing Hayley to continue alone.
However, they both showed up to perform again together at bootcamp and were told that their journey was over as a duo but Hayley could continue as a solo act.
As they went backstage Hayley pleaded with her mother to let her continue alone, saying, “Please, I want this so bad. Please, please.”
Sharon Osbourne, meanwhile, said, “It’s the wrong way around. The mother should be supporting the daughter and saying, ‘Go’.
”Simon said, “I don’t want to cause a rift but as a group it’s not going to work and it’s just not fair on your daughter.”
Debye eventually decided to let Hayley continue without her.
She said, “She is my baby star, that’s what I called her when she was born. She’s going to go forward.”
Despite her decision Debye faced massive backlash on social media.
On the show tonight solo artists and groups were seen tackling the daunting first stage of competing with four other singers on stage for the judges. Some then progressed to the second stage – performing on stage for the judges and a 4000 strong crowd.
There were tears and tantrums as some struggled with their song choice and others simply buckled under the pressure on stage.
Tomorrow night’s show will feature Irish brothers Sean and Conor Price.
Those successful at bootcamp will face the terrifying Six Chair Challenge.
