Sam Smith has said scoring a second number one album is “a dream come true”.

The singer-songwriter’s The Thrill Of It All has debuted at the top of the charts after shifting nearly 100,000 units across all formats in the week following its release.

“Thank you to every single person who has got The Thrill Of It All – this is a dream come true for me, thank you.”

The Thrill Of It All’s chart triumph follows Smith’s debut album In The Lonely Hour, which was a number one hit in 2014.

In The Lonely Hour has also enjoyed a surge in the charts this week due to Smith’s second album’s popularity, and is now at number 15 for its 114th week in the top 40.

The Oscar-winning star fended off competition from the late Roy Orbison, whose new album A Love So Beautiful with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is at number two.

Last week’s chart-toppers Michael Ball and Alfie Boe are at number three with Together Again, Ed Sheeran’s Divide is at number four and Pink rounds off the top five with Beautiful Trauma.

TV star Sheridan Smith’s self-titled debut album has debuted inside the top 10 at number nine..

Meanwhile, over on the Official Singles Chart, Camila Cabello is enjoying a second week at the top with Havana.

The former Fifth Harmony star’s popular track, featuring Young Thug, had spent several weeks on the charts before it achieved number one.

At number two is non-mover Post Malone with Rockstar.

Smith’s previous number one single Too Good At Goodbyes has enjoyed a surge this week, climbing four places to number three.

Marshmello and Khalid’s Silence is at number four, and Anywhere by Rita Ora is at number five.
