Steve Harvey will finally come face to face with Miss Colombia on his radio show after 'humiliating' Miss Universe gaffe
Steve Harvey will apologise to Miss Colombia on national television when she appears on his talk show this month.
The tv personality named Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner of the Miss Universe pageant last month, a title that she was stripped of just minutes later when he announced he made a mistake and she was in fact the runner-up.
After an initially diplomatic response saying "everything happens for a reason," she later said her dreams were "destroyed" in four minutes.
Gutierrez said afterward she spent the evening crying and described the incident as "humiliating", not just for her personally, but "for the whole country and for all the people not only from Colombia, but the other Latinos that were in the auditorium."
I went up to my parents’ room and, obviously, I was very sad, I was in bad shape, I was crying. I cried a ton that night. In four minutes, they destroy your dreams. They throw it in a bag, they throw it in the trash. They could have done it another way. I feel like it doesn’t matter to them the feelings of a girl who has worked her whole life for a dream.”
The gloves will come off on January 18 when her appearance is scheduled to air in the US, according to Entertainment Tonight.
"When I did it, it was horrible for Miss Colombia, and she's the only one I haven't had a chance to talk to," he said on his radio show after the incident.
"I've had a chance to talk to Miss Philippines. I've talked to all the pageant people. I've talked to people backstage. Even me and the director had a long talk. But I haven't been able to reach out and talk to Miss Colombia. Now, have I tried? Yes. But haven't gotten a response."
