He left his morning slot on RTE Radio 1 in June and now John Murray is set to become a key member of RTE’s Weekend Sport panel.
The veteran broadcaster had fronted The John Murray Show from 9-10am on weekdays for five years but left the slot amid a radio shuffle at Montrose.
Ryan Tubridy will take over the coveted slot this autumn.
Meanwhile, John will head over to the sports department from September onwards.
On Saturdays he will join Des Cahill and Joanne Cantwell from 2-6pm to talk through the day’s sporting action.
He’ll be on with Jacqui Hurley and Darren Frehill at the same time on Sunday afternoons to report on the sporting results in Ireland and beyond.
“John isn’t going anywhere, he will be joining the team on Weekend Sport,” an RTE source told the Herald.
“He’s not replacing anyone, he’ll be joining the different teams on both days. He has a huge interest in sport and is very much looking forward to joining the team.
“It’s an exciting new role and it’s a format from his old show so he can’t wait to get started.”
