Newstalk targets early risers with new 6am daily news programme 'Breakfast Briefing'
Early risers (or the very late to bed) will soon be able to able to catch up on the news stories of the morning from 6am with Newstalk's new programme, 'Breakfast Briefing'.
Presented by Andrea Gilligan, it aims to provide listeners with the top news stories of the morning and set the agenda for the day.
With the two main national breakfast news programmes, Newstalk Breakfast and RTE Radio 1's Morning Ireland, both kicking off at 7am on weekdays, Breakfast Briefing will be only live news programme on radio at this time.
“The decision to launch this programme comes after significant listener feedback from commuters who expressed a strong desire for an early morning news programme," said Chris Doyle of Newstalk.
"The number of commuters leaving before 6.30am has increased 49% in recent years and until now the national airwaves did not reflect this. It is important that Newstalk responds to this demand and reflect the change in listeners’ lives.”
Andrea Gilligan has worked for Newstalk for five yeas as the afternoon News Anchor. She also presents Between the Lines on Sunday mornings and is a stand-in presenter on Newstalk Breakfast and Lunchtime Live.
Breakfast Briefing will air from 6am to 6.30am from August 27.
