NEWSTALK has rejected a media report which suggested that the station was preparing to 'axe' broadcaster Pat Kenny from its lineup.

The independent station landed the presenter from RTE in 2013 in what was seen as a major broadcasting coup.

Reports in this morning’s Irish Sun suggested the station was preparing to axe the show, as the paper claimed Newstalk  were unhappy with the audience figures.

However in a strongly worded statement issued today, the station labelled the report a ‘work of fiction’.

Commenting on the article Garrett Harte, Editor in Chief of Newstalk said: "This article is a complete work of fiction and contains absolutely no truth whatsoever. Pat has boosted audience figures for his programme by over 150% since starting two years ago. We are very happy with Pat’s performance and we are actively planning a number of large campaigns for next year.”

He went on to slam the article as ‘speculation and conjecture’.

“This false, misleading and damaging article is the antithesis of what we do in Newstalk," he said.

“It is an article that was published based on misguided and ill-informed speculation and conjecture.”
