NEWSTALK and RTE are celebrating tonight as latest listenership figures continue to grow.

Newtalk's breakfast show, hosted by Ivan Yates and Chris Donoghue, was one of the winners after seeing an increase of 12,000, bringing its total to 165,000.

There were mixed results at RTE, which saw several Radio One shows drop listeners - but RTE 2FM has seen impressive gains for Ryan Tubridy's mid-morning show.

His radio listenership figures jumped 6,000 to 177,000 in the latest Joint National Listenership Research (JNLR) ratings.

Tubridy increased his listenership by 27,000 four months previously and told the Irish Independent the steady climb had come as a “pleasant relief”.

“Obviously I am happy with the ratings,” he said. “Giving up was never an option for me but I think that when you actually see the numbers going up you realise that you're better off sticking around, fixing it and making it better than just leaving it at the first sight of trouble."

Sean Moncrieff increased by 5,000 to 119,000 and George Hook increased by 13,000 while Off the Ball remained on 49,000.

Tubridy credited his production team and 2FM boss Dan Healy for his success.

2FM also saw Rick O’Shea gain 5,000 listeners and Colm Hayes 2,000.

Sean O’Rourke increased his listenership by 3,000 bringing his figures up to 298,000 while radio rival Pat Kenny fell by 1,000 to 142,000.

Marian Finucane’s Saturday show jumped 16,000 to 366,000 while her Sunday show saw 9,000 more listeners tune in.

Sunday with Miriam was up 3,000 while Claire Byrne’s Saturday show increased in ratings by 4,000.

Today FM’s Ian Dempsey fell 9,000 to 187,000 while Tony Fenton increased to 96,000.

Savage on Sunday increased by 8,000 which, according to a Today FM spokesperson, “bodes very well for Anton’s new morning slot”.

Today FM's Dermot and Dave dropped 4,000 to 116,000. Matt Cooper gained 1,000 but overall it was good news for the station whose overall weekly reach now sits at 893,000.

Gay Byrne was the biggest jumper with his Lyric FM Sunday show increasing a whopping 21,000.
