'I'm too young to start listening to Radio 1' - Twitter reacts to Ray D'Arcy leaving Today FM for RTE
As Ray D'Arcy announced he has left Today FM to take up a new role at RTE, Twitter predictably erupted.
D'Arcy had presented his own morning radio show The Ray D'Arcy Show on the station for 14 years, having moved from RTE where he had presented chidlren's TV for the previous 13.
And RTE presenter Eoghan McDermott was one of the first of his new RTE colleagues to react with the tweet, "Ray D'Arcy is leaving TodayFm and coming back to RTE radio. Welcome home Dad."
Comedian PJ Gallagher said, "Best of luck to Ray D'arcy in his move to to radio 1. Hope it all works out brilliant."
The response from radio listeners was predominantly one of shock and upset that Ray is leaving.
One of Ray's listeners wrote, "Gutted Ray D'Arcy's leaving Today FM. I'm too young to start listening to Radio 1", a reference to the fact Ray will fill Derek Mooney's slot on RTE Radio 1 from February.
Another said, "Can't believe Ray D'Arcy is leaving @todayfmofficial very sad."
Whilst the overwhelming response was one of support, not everyone was impressed by the news, "How much is Ray D'Arcy going back to @rte going to cost the licence payers?"
