Pat Kenny spoke to Clinical Sexologist Emily Power Smith about the film 'Fifty Shades of Grey'.

Kenny asked the question "Is this film soft-core fantasy for the sexually repressed?"

Clinical sexologist Emily Power-Smith told Kenny that the appeal of the film "certainly isn't the writing, and certainly isn't the plot".

"I can understand why it's such a hit... it feeds into a very basic female fantasy. It's not the most advanced, or most mature, but it's very popular".

On the issue of cable ties, movie reviewer Susan reported that "apparently, B & Q have had to give special training for staff to deal with people coming in and asking for these things".

Power-Smith said that BDSM is likely "more boundaried,(sic) more careful, more respectful... more consensual" in real life.

She discussed briefly the idea of safe words, explaining that they would have to be words that "wouldn't come up normally in play - so it wouldn't be no. You might want to incorporate 'no' into your play', adding "it could be Pat Kenny!"

"God help us", replied Pat.

"There's risks with everything... a lot of the stuff in the book is put forward in a very simplistic way. If you're going to try it, you might not have enough information to do it correctly".

"There needs to be a lot of negotiation".

Kenny quipped "There's always the milkman", to which Power-Smith tersely replied "I don't even know what that means".

"I can't take this stuff seriously at all", Kenny added.

Wrapping up the slightly awkward segment, Power-Smith said "Pat Kenny " again when asked for safe word advice, to which Pat replied "No, Enda Kenny!"
