Hector filling Ray D'Arcy's old slot at Today FM, warming up for Anton Savage
Hector Ó hEochagáin will be filling Ray D'Arcy's old slot at Today FM from 9am on Monday.
The 45-year-old broadcaster was axed from his morning slot on 2Fm in December 2013 as Breakfast Republic recruits Jennifer Maguire, Bernard O'Shea, and Keith Walsh were drafted in.
The Galway-based personality's morning programme brought in 136,000 listeners for RTE radio according to his last JNLR figures -- up 12,000 on the same figures from the previous numbers in January 2013.
When Dan Healy took over the Head of 2FM position, he offered Hector an ultimatum -- to move his show to Dublin or his position would no longer be available.
Last summer Hector admitted that he was sad to leave, "I miss my soldiers of the dawn on the radio and I can't go five yards without someone talking about the show so I'm thinking of that audience.
"My family is chuffed. Getting up at 20 past five it is not all that nice. I am now sleeping and getting the chance to bring my kids to school," he said.
The early starts will begin again from Monday, although Hector is filling the position at Today FM temporarily until Anton Savage arrives.
Ray D'Arcy abruptly left the radio station last month to return to his broadcasting "home" within the grounds of RTE.
