Christmas FM kicks off today marking the beginning of the festive season (as far as we're concerned).

The charity radio station, which raises funds for deserving Irish charities every year, will begin broadcasting at 1pm and will continue until December 26.

This year's charity is Sightsavers which aims to give the gift of sight to over 5000 people.  Around the world 36 million are blind but 75 per cent of those can be cured of prevented.

Every year the station is run by more than 100 volunteers from the Ballsbridge Hotel in Dublin and this year Christmas FM is also launching a UK station.

At the launch Christmas FM ambassador Vogue Williams said that she was “thrilled" to be involved.

“I always love tuning in when I’m at home in Dublin – it’s the perfect soundtrack for getting you into the Christmas party season!" she said.  "It’s exciting to see the station launch in the UK this year and I can’t wait to have Christmas music playing 24/7!”
