Longtime 2FM DJ Rick O'Shea has revealed he will be presenting The Poetry Programme on RTE Radio 1 from January 24.

The new programme will run every Saturday at 7.30pm, after The Book Show, and will see Rick "interviewing contemporary poets from Ireland and all over the world, visiting poetry and spoken word events around the country and celebrating anniversaries in the greater poetry world".

O'Shea (41) announced the news on Twitter and revealed that his first show will see him talking to National Poet of Scotland Liz Lochhead, checking out what performance poetry night Brownbread Mixtape sounds like, and the founder of the Lingo Festival Stephen James Smith will give a performance of a Yeats poem.

Writing on his blog, O'Shea said, "I’m hoping this will be a programme not just for those in the poetry community already but  for people with an interest in poetry who’d like to dig in and find new and established contemporary poets and events that they might want to read more of or turn up at."

The broadcaster, who has been a presenter on 2FM since 2001, will continue to host his regular show on 2FM at 2pm Monday to Friday.
