2FM DJ Louise McSharry poised for return to radio following cancer all-clear
2fm DJ Louise McSharry is gearing up for a return to her radio slot this month following getting the all-clear from cancer.
The 31-year old was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in August and had taken a sabbatical from her 2fm radio show to focus on her treatment and recovery.
Speaking to Ryan Tubridy on the station this morning, Louise said, “The plan is to be back on April 19th, on Sunday.
"I have loads of feelings. I’m really, really excited and a little bit nervous. I hope I remember how to do it!"
Louise chose Daffodil Day to share her exciting news on Twitter, and to thank the hospital staff for their help in her recovery.
"So #DaffodilDay seems like the perfect day to tell you that I got the results of my scan, and I don't have cancer anymore! It turns out modern medicine is very effective. Also, the incredible staff of Vincent's Ward in the Mater are unstoppable.
"Thinking a lot about people still dealing with cancer or have just been diagnosed. I won't ever stop I don't think, as I have been so lucky."
However, the bubbly presenter also told Ryan that she's still not 100%.
“I don’t want to create any false impression that when you finish your chemo, you get your scan, then boom your back to normal," she said.
“That’s not the reality of the situation. I’m not 100%. I’m still quite tired.
“I’m ready to devote a few hours a day to properly work and I’m lucky the job isn’t physically difficult."
Louise previously said there was no guarantee her slot would still be available when she recovered.
She said, "I deal with it every day. If you work in a job like my you do deal with that on a regular basis. It's something that concerns me.
"Nobody can make any promises my job will be there when I get back. I just have to get through it and do my best and hope it's there when I get back."
Louise will return on Sunday April 19.
