So Mila Kunis is said to have "admitted" on television that she secretly got married to Ashton Kutcher. And James Corden is getting all the credit for pressing her into coming clean on American television.
It was a noisy scoop for the brand new host of the Late Late Show - as an unknown Brit in the chair recently vacated by Craig Ferguson, he had a lot to prove, and the bombshell certainly helped get his tenure off with a bang.
Which is all great news for those of us on this side of the Atlantic cheering him on from afar. Or was, until we all went onto Google, to check out the clips of the interview, and saw that it is transparently clear that it was not Corden himself, but his other guest, Tom Hanks, the unacknowldged wing-man of Corden's apparent journalistic coup, who was almost entirely responsible for squeezing the news out of Mila. Sure, it was Corden who posed the question directly, but if it hadn't been for Hanks steering him into it, and then gesturing none-too-subtly at Kunis's wedding finger, it looked like Corden would have had to settle for being fended off with shrugs and non-committal answers.
Tom Hanks has long been known and revered as an important actor, but who knew that he deserved credit too, for his generous services to celebrity journalism.
See, this is what happens, film PR industry. When you become all powerful, all controlling, and turn encounters between journalists and film stars into the media equivalent of factory farming: everyone loses their minds slightly. Witness: Cate Blanchett this week nearly falling off her chair when some American hack asked her first if she'd like a beer (she doesn't drink beer, she said, possibly because of the carbs), and then how she managed to get a cat on a leash (in reference to a scene in what is clearly the heavily CGI-ed children's fantasy film that she's in).
We need to talk about Miriam O'Callaghan. There were noises last week that she isn't totally against the notion of running for the job of President in 2018. Apparently, a source close to the RTE star said she is seriously considering standing. There was nothing from Miriam to confirm or deny the story.
