Gwyneth Paltrow has admitted she has thought about whether she was right to split from her husband of 10 years, Coldplay's Chris Martin.

But the Hollywood star says that they have overcome the difficulties and are now firm friends.

The actress spoke to 'Harper's Bazaar' magazine about her relationship with the singer, from whom she split in March this year.

The pair famously used the much-mocked phrase "consciously uncouple' to describe their break-up in a statement on the Iron Man actress's website, going on to say that they would continue to "co-parent" their two children, Apple and Moses.

In an interview with the magazine, Paltrow says: "We've made a lot of mistakes, and we've had good days and bad days, but, I have to say, I'm proud of us for working through so much stuff together - and not blaming and shaming.

"Of course, there are times when I think it would have been better if we had stayed married, which is always what your children want. But we have been able to solidify this friendship, so that we're really close."

And she hit out at those who "twist words".

She said: "Women really need to examine why they're so vitriolic to other women; why they want to twist words, why they want to read about someone else in a negative light and why that feels good to them..."

The couple, who married in December 2003, have two children together, daughter Apple (9) and son Moses (7). For many years they were based in London, where the children went to school, but then uprooted to Los Angeles last year, where Paltrow still lives.

The interview appears in the February issue of Harper's Bazaar.
