Oprah Winfrey bonded with Forest Whitaker using massages and foot rubs
After seeing The Butler for the sixth time as she promotes her new film around the world, Oprah Winfrey thanked the people who had turned out for a special Bafta screening of the film at Vue Leicester Square.
“I don’t know about you, but I would rather be at home in my PJs,” the American actress and chat show host told them.
As part of the “bonding process” with Forest Whitaker, who plays the title role of the fictional White House factotum to whom she is married, she admitted that she used to like giving him massages and rubbing his knees between takes on the set. “I got his wife’s permission,” she added, hurriedly.
The film begins in Dwight Eisenhower’s White House and ends with the election of Barack Obama. Interestingly, it omits the administrations of Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton.
Had it included Clinton, it would, of course, have had to be retitled “What the Butler Saw”.
MPs’ cat burglar
It is meant to be one of the country’s most secure locations, but the Palace of Westminster has been infiltrated by an intruder: a black cat with a white bib.
The creature is not John Bercow’s pussy: the only one officially resident in the Palace. His pet, Order, is grey. Neither is it Larry, nor Freya, the Downing Street moggies. Mandrake calls for a judge-led inquiry.
