My perfect weekend: Stevie G
The plan for Saturday night?
I work every Saturday, so it's my radio show on RedFM and then on to the Pavilion until late, where we are hosting a French DJ at Go Deep called DJ Deep.
Must see gig/performance of the weekend?
Besides DJ Deep there is a Brazilian DJ called Marky in the Savoy on Friday, while the always interesting Republic of Loose are in Cork as well, down in Ballinhassig. They are a really good band, but they should be more popular outside Ireland.
Pub / restaurant/ club you couldn't live without?
I love the food at Market Lane, Liberty Grill, Cafe Paradiso and Trattoria at Blackrock Castle -- there are so many wonderful options in Cork, we are spoilt for choice.
Best weekend ever?
The Southern Soul and Disco Festivals we ran in 1997 and 1998 were two of the best I've ever had and great for Cork.
Worst weekend ever?
Any weekend where both Cork City and Man United lose is pretty bad, but thankfully I am generally upbeat, even on bad days!
Favourite pre-going out ritual
If it's to work, I make sure to go through my records for an hour or so and pick whatever suits my mood. But if it's to socialise, I usually just hang out with my young daughter Lola beforehand.
Top post-pub munchies?
With the whole city spilling on to the street at 2am, the last thing I want to do is go for food.
Weirdest taxi queue moment?
We had a soul act over from Detroit called PPP. I brought half the band back to the Clarion Hotel, but the rest of them forgot to unload their gear -- with thousands of dollars worth of laptops and synths -- from a cab. Luckily Cork is small and, after two hours of calls, I tracked down John the taxi driver who had everything intact!
