My perfect weekend: Rick O'Shea 2 FM DJ

The plan for Saturday night?

Dara O Briain is playing Vicar Street, so my plan is definitely to go see him. The last time I saw him was when he was on at Vicar Street and Chris Rock was on in the Olympia and I went to see Dara and then to the late Chris Rock show. And Dara was 10 times better...

Yeah... Chris Rock was just so uptight and manic...

He was like a parody of himself. Not that funny. I've caught Dara a couple of times and he's never less than the most polished stand-up I'd ever seen. Always incredibly sharp.

A bit of a comedy buff, then?

I go to comedy on a fairly regular basis. I was at Jimmy Carr in the Olympia recently. He was middling to average.

Pub / restaurant/ club you couldn't live without?

I don't go clubbing at all. A late-night bar suits me fine. Actually, I would say Elephant and Castle in Temple Bar. We'd go there for breakfast on a relatively regular basis.

Best weekend ever?

There was a weekend I spent in London last year. I went to The Globe Theatre [where Shakespeare is performed in an authentic Elizabethan setting]. I'm a very big fan of theatre so I went to Troilus and Cressida and, afterwards, to a performance at St Martin in the Fields. Later, I went to the Tate Modern.

Worst weekend ever?

Oooh... That's a hard one... can I pick one from my childhood?

By all means...

It was the weekend of the World Cup Final in 1982. I fractured my arm playing soccer with my mates just before the game started. So I ended up in hospital and missed the whole thing.

Harsh. Anyway, what about your favourite pre-going out ritual...

Picking the shirt is obviously the ritual. It's usually the only thing, as guys, we can do to make ourselves look fantastic. Girls have a hundred different options.

Top post-pub munchies?

I'm falling into places all the time. I've been on a number of occasions to Zaytoon on Camden Street, near the Bleeding Horse

Your perfect date?

Ah, the Scarlett Johansson question. I always use the Scarlett Johansson line, but that makes you sound like some sweaty-palmed pervert. For years, my continuing answer was Kate Winslet. I've had a huge crush ever since I saw her in Heavenly Creatures, the Peter Jackson movie.

Hear Rick O'Shea from midday to 3pm, weekdays, on 2FM
