My perfect weekend: Marja Gaynor
The plan for Saturday night?
I'll meet up with the Dublin Sound Lab guys and try not to be too nervous before the gig. Afterwards, I'll hopefully get to catch up with friends at the Lord Edward.
Must see gig/performance of the weekend?
Octophonies at Project Arts Centre tonight and tomorrow -- obviously.
Pub/restaurant/club you couldn't live without?
Callanans in Cork. Rob, you're a legend! As for clubs... bring back the Yumi Yuki upstairs at Triskel!
Best weekend ever?
My birthday weekend last year was pretty close to perfection. I was playing Bach cantatas with a small good Baroque group, touring, being well looked after and had my husband and daughter along too. The best of all worlds.
Worst weekend ever?
It actually ended up being one of the best, but: first getting arrested on the Finland-Russia border for bringing a stringed instrument into the country. Then queuing in several freezing (it was mid-winter) offices for hours. Then, after several calls to friends in St Petersburg, getting out on the pretence we were going to perform in a prison, and then finding out that we actually were going to perform in a prison.
Favourite pre-going out ritual?
I was a tomboy and I'm still pretty useless at dolling up. Nowadays, making sure the babysitter has a nice cup of tea and access to Facebook, or whatever they're into.
Best chat-up line at 2am?
Are you awake love?
Your perfect date?
My husband says that if I mention Viggo Mortensen, Icelandic ponies and chips cheese and garlic he's going to disown me.
On Saturday, violinist Marja will perform computer-mediated works as part of Dublin Sound Lab's Octophonies in Project Arts Centre, Dublin. See www.projectartscentre.ie
