X Factor's Sam to sing at cup match
X Factor winner Sam Bailey is to tackle the biggest gig of her career when she performs on the pitch at the Capital One Cup quarter-final between Leicester City and Manchester City.
The singer, who lives in Leicester Forest East, will perform two tracks including her new single Skyscraper in front of the crowd at her hometown club's King Power Stadium at half-time.
She said: " Since I moved to Leicester it has always been a dream of mine to perform at Leicester City. All the family are massive fans and to sing in front of a sell-out crowd at King Power Stadium will be a special moment for me.
"The team have been doing brilliantly this season so I hope all the fans keep the faith for what will be a massive game tonight. I'm really looking forward to performing and hope everyone enjoys it."
Some of the Championship club's players supported Sam at the X Factor live shows, including striker David Nugent and goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.
The 36-year-old mother of two was picked by the public over teenager Nicholas McDonald at the end of the live show in front of 10,000 people at London's Wembley Arena.
Sam, who won a recording contract and will also support pop superstar Beyonce on the UK leg of her Mrs Carter world tour in February, will now bid for the Christmas number one with her cover of the Demi Lovato track.
Bookmaker William Hill has made her the 1/8 favourite to be Christmas number one.
The firm's spokesman said: " Sam was 1/8 to win the X Factor and she won that with ease. She is now the same price to bag Christmas number one and we think she is equally likely to scoop that accolade".
Music company Syco is donating all its profits for CD and download sales to be shared by Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity and Together For Short Lives. That will mean at least £1 for each CD sold in the UK and at least 20p for each download.
Sam will join the X Factor tour in February and March.
