A SOCIAL media campaign is underway to get the song ‘Ding Dong’ from The Wizard of Oz film to number one in the aftermath of Margaret Thatcher’s death.

Since the death of the former British Prime Minister was announced yesterday, the song has steadily rose on download charts in the UK.

A "Make 'Ding dong the Witch is Dead' number 1 the week Thatcher dies" Facebook campaign was originally started in 2007.

The lyrics of the song from the 1939 movie trended on Twitter throughout yesterday.

However the campaign is encouraging people to download the Ella FitzGerald version, not the original Garland version – as it is too short to qualify for the official charts.

The song climbed to number 26 on the iTunes charts yesterday, while it climbed to number three on Amazon.
