Van will stage a gig in Gigi's home town despite baby hoax
VAN Morrison is to go ahead with a concert in the home town of the woman at the centre of hoax allegations that she gave birth to the singer's child.
The concert will take place later this month in Texas, the southern US state that is home to music producer Gigi Lee.
Morrison's three dates in Texas include a performance on January 25 in Bass Performance Hall, Fort Worth, the same city in which music producer Lee (42) lives, amid reports she has recently given birth to a baby.
However, despite adding to speculation, a source close to the 64-year-old singer said he would not be reconsidering his tour plan.
"If Van cancelled his dates in Texas, it would be a horrible message to send out. He would be playing into the hands of all this controversy and letting down his fans," the source added.
Having launched a legal challenge against a Sunday newspaper which claimed he fathered a child with Gigi Lee, the singer is being represented by the London firm of solicitors Russells -- who work with leading artists in the entertainment industry.
A family friend said that while Morrison was not being vindictive, he thought it likely that the singer would take further legal action over reports which he has described, in a statement, as "false and completely and utterly without foundation".
Friends say one report, which described Michelle Rocca, to whom the singer is happily married, as his "former wife", was particularly upsetting.
However, his first priority would be against a Sunday newspaper for a series of allegations printed last weekend.
"The newspaper was told in advance what they were printing was not true but they decided to go ahead anyway," said a source close to Morrison on the decision to hire a legal team.
