A U2 superfan is braving the elements and camping outside Stephen's Green Shopping Centre this weekend to ensure he nabs tickets for the band's Croke Park gig when they go on sale on Monday.

Vincent Kearns, from Rathfarnham, plans to spend his 50th birthday rocking out to his all-time favourite band.

The school caretaker is prepared to sit outside the shopping centre for three days and three nights to ensure he gets a ticket for the show.

"U2 have been my favourite band for over 30 years and I've been queuing like this on Grafton Street for over 20," he said.

"I've seen them 72 times in total and this year it turns out that they will be performing in Ireland on my 50th birthday.

"I have no need to hire a venue or a band for my party because I have the biggest and best music group in the world."
