The boys done good

Boy band members who have gone on to better – and stranger – things.

Scott Walker

As the frontman of The Walker Brothers, the artist born Scott Engel was the original teen totty. Soon, he tired of all the screaming fans and, in the early 1970s reinvented himself as a brooding, increasingly bonkers, songwriter. He hasn't looked back since.

Justin Timberlake

A rare case of a credible pop star turned (mostly) credible actor, you'd never guess that, in his days fronting 'N Sync, Timberlake (below) was regarded as little more than a fancy hair-cut in search of a music career.

Donnie Wahlberg

Mark's older brother was a member of New Kids On The Block. Though the group continues to tread the comeback circuit, he has a respectable second career as actor, playing the lead in NYC cop drama Blue Bloods.

Alex James, Blur

Blur may not have been a 'boy band' in the traditional sense. However, at the height of Britpop they certainly had their share of squealing teenage fans. It's a quite a distance from headlining arenas to waxing about the joys of Stilton and Wensleydale. But that is the transition made by bassist Alex James, who nowadays oversees his own line of popular cheeses.
