THE 17th Century gardens of Kilruddery House in Bray, Co Wicklow, will form the background to a special concert from one of the world's most famous tenors.

Spanish performer Jose Carreras will play an outdoor concert at the venue tomorrow night as part of the Kilruddery Festival this weekend. He will be supported by Naas-born soprano singer Celine Byrne, who is now one of Europe's emerging classical stars.

Ms Byrne's awards include first prize at the Maria Callas Grand Prix in Athens and the William Young Prize at the Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition in Dublin.

Gates for the performance open at 5.30pm, with Carreras making his entrance at 8.30pm. Tickets are priced between €85 and €155. Closing the festival will be Michael Ball performing with the Dublin Gospel Choir. For more details, see www.kilrudderyfestival.com.
