Sir Rod Stewart's wife Penny Lancaster revealed the couple have privately renewed their wedding vows ahead of their 10th anniversary to rid their new house of negative spirits.

The 45-year-old model married the Scottish rocker, 71, in Italy in June 2007 and they have recently moved into a new UK home, an 18th century estate in Essex.

The pair plan a grand renewal of their vows in Italy next year, but Lancaster revealed they had already secretly done it.

She told Hello! magazine: "I wanted the priest to bless the house because I felt there was a lot of history and old spirits there: we wanted to say thank you to the old and welcome in the new.

"So we walked into the garden, under the largest oak tree there, and we said our vows again, just Rod, myself and the priest. It was beautiful."

Posing for photos at their Beverly Hills mansion, Lancaster said that Sir Rod's recent knighthood had given her the chance to live out her Thunderbirds childhood nickname in real life.

She explained: "I used to get called Lady Penelope at school because the other kids thought I spoke nicely.

"After the news (of Sir Rod's knighthood) broke, the driver that takes us into London would say to me, 'Evening, me Lady,' and I would reply jokingly, 'London please, Parker'."

Sir Rod said he feels "very lucky" to have earned the knighthood.
