DUNDALK Siblings The Corrs have beaten legendary rockers U2 to have the most successful Irish album in the UK charts ever.

The band’s 1997 album ‘Talk on corners’ is the 25th highest selling album ever in the UK. U2’s only album to appear in the top 40 is 1987’s ‘Joshua Tree’, which comes in at 34.

The band also hold the feat of being only the second band ever to hold the number one and two spots simultaneously in the UK charts.

The band are currently on a break – the last time they released an album of new material was 2005’s ‘Home,’ however the record proved not to be as successful as previous efforts, only charting at number 14 in the UK.

U2 still prove to be the most successful Irish act worldwide, with record sales of 150m – well over 100m more sales than the Dundalk natives.

According to figures from the Official Charts Company, Queen’s 1981 Greatest Hits collection has been the highest selling album ever in the UK, selling 5.8m copies.

The Beatles 1967 ‘Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band’ takes second place with 5 millions sold, while Swedish Eurovision winners Abba round off the top three – their greatest hits ‘Gold’ album has sold 4.9m copies in the UK.
