Rock and pop stars put on intimate shows for Arthur's Day
SOME of the biggest names in rock and pop will return to their roots tonight playing intimate shows across Ireland as part of the Arthur's Day Celebrations.
Mika, Primal Scream, Mumford & Sons, and Fatboy Slim, are among the artists taking part in the fourth Arthur's Day Celebrations which numbers 500 music events nationwide.
Irish acts will be represented too with sets featuring the best of home grown talent, including Royseven, Mundy, Picturehouse and Paddy Casey. Celebrations will kick off this evening with eight Arthur’s Day TV Specials being staged at pubs in Cork, Dublin and Belfast.
The festivities will extend to 55 countries, spanning six time zones, and see a global audience raising a toast to mark the anniversary of Guinness founder Arthur Guinness signing the lease on his brewery in St James’ Gate, Dublin.
London's Senate House will be treated to an exclusive gig from music icon Tom Jones.
Music fans in Ireland can find out which acts are playing their local from website www.guinness.com.
Aside from the TV specials, no tickets are required for the majority of gigs, but fans are advised to turn up early.
This year, for every ‘check-in’ by people to the Arthur’s Day Facebook event, a €5 donation will be made by Guinness to the Arthur Guinness Fund, which supports social entrepreneurs.
