Singer Robbie Williams said he is "chuffed" after his latest album reached number one, making him the most successful British solo act in official chart history.

The Heavy Entertainment Show is the artist's 12th album to reach the top spot, it was announced on Friday, pushing him past David Bowie and tying him with Madonna.

Elvis Presley is the only solo act to have achieved more number one albums after a collection of his hits remastered with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra became his 13th two weeks ago.

In just one week since its release, Williams' album has also become the fourth highest-selling of the year behind Bowie's Blackstar, Drake's Views and Beyonce's Lemonade.

He told OfficialCharts.com: "I'm chuffed that this album is number one and I'm humbled by these amazing statistics and facts. Thank you to the wonderful, wonderful team at Sony.

"I'm as proud of this album as much as any other and hope that the fans enjoy it as much as I loved making it ... this is for the friendlies."

The album was followed by Michael Ball and Alfie Boe's new duo release Together at number two and the Presley album The Wonder Of You coming in third.

In fourth place in the album charts was Michael Buble's Nobody But Me followed by Bon Jovi's This House Is Not For Sale.

In terms of singles, Clean Bandit has climbed its way to the top spot with latest track Rockabye, featuring Anne Marie and rapper Sean Paul.

The band told the company: "Thank you so much to everyone who has been listening to this song.

"Rockabye is a song that means a lot to us and it means even more to us that so many of you are listening to it and liking it."

Coming in second was Little Mix's Shout Out To My Ex, followed by James Arthur's Say You Won't Let Me Go, Starboy by Weeknd ft Daft Punk and Bruno Mars' 24K Magic.
