Richards: Opera's right Step for me

Claire Richards is excited about Steps getting back together - but the singer hasn't ruled out a return to opera.

The mum-of-two made it to the semi-final of ITV1's Popstar To Operastar, and is currently revisiting her pop past in the Sky Living show Steps Reunion.

But Claire confessed she'd love to follow in the footsteps of Operastar winner Joe McElderry and go down the classical route.

"I definitely think my voice, with a little bit of training, does lend itself to that. I was told while doing Popstar To Operastar that I was a soprano, so I do have the range to sing that kind of stuff," she said.

"I would absolutely love to do more opera, I really loved it and it really gave me a lot of confidence back and made me realise how much I miss singing."

Claire admitted it was strange watching herself and former bandmates Lee Latchford-Evans, Lisa Scott-Lee, Faye Tozer, and Ian 'H' Watkins - who are also releasing a Steps Ultimate Collection - on the new show.

"I like to watch it and pretend it's not me so I can try and have an objective view of it, and watch it as anybody else. Thankfully it isn't just me on this one. It is quite weird though.

"I was a kid when we started, I was only 19 and still living with my parents really, right until near the end of Steps.

"But I feel much stronger this time and able to deal with it. I definitely try and deal with any issues this time around before it gets out of hand."

:: The Steps Ultimate Collection is available on CD and CD/DVD on October 10.
