MORE than 2,000 classical music fans were settled in nice and early to see 66-year-old Jose Carreras (right) take to the stage at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre in Dublin last night.

Starting promptly at 8pm, it was the first time Carreras had performed live to an Irish audience in three years.

Carreras was joined on stage by Kildare-born soprano, Celine Byrne. The mother of three has performed with Carreras around Europe over the past five years.

The Spaniard was greeted by rapturous applause as he walked out to greet his fans.
