Aretha Franklin has received an honorary degree from Harvard University.

The Queen of Soul was among a group of people recognised by the prestigious American university, along with former US president George HW Bush.

Singer Aretha, 72, was presented with an honorary doctor of arts degree.

The star - whose legendary career spans more than five decades - accompanied herself on piano to perform the National Anthem at the ceremony.

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg was also among the people who received an honorary degree.
