Music stars Lily Allen, Jessie Ware and Jess Glynne will reflect on Amy Winehouse's life and career, as a new documentary film about her premieres tonight in London.

Amy, directed by Asif Kapadia, follows the life and death of the Back To Black singer, who was found dead on July 23 2011 at the age of 27 from alcohol poisoning at her home in Camden, North London.

The film features contributions and interviews with her ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil, her musical friends Mark Ronson, Mos Def, Tyler James and her childhood friends, as well as her parents Mitch and Janis Winehouse.

Mitch has since distanced himself from the movie, after he saw the film prior to its Cannes premiere.

Other stars expected at the gala premiere at Picturehouse Central in Piccadilly Circus include Bastille, The XX, Bombay Bicycle Club, Lianne La Havas, Rizzle Kicks, Rudimental and James Morrison, as well as filmmakers Kapadia and producer James Gay-Rees.

Nick Shymansky, who discovered Amy as a 16-year-old and became her manager, said he could not turn down the opportunity to speak out.

"The reason I did this is actually to focus on her brilliance," he told Radio Times.

"The dark side is so well documented, available and overly publicised. The one thing you know when you go and see this film is that Amy's going to die. And I felt that for a long time before the end came."

Kapadia added: "Amy is not someone people know was funny and intelligent - most people don't even know she wrote her songs. So I feel like I owe it to her to try to reveal who she really was.

"This film is heavy, it's a dark film, but man, was she great," the director added.

Amy opens in UK cinemas on July 3.
