Our Eurovision chances? – what's another year
We may have got rid of Jedward, but Ireland still has no chance at this year's Eurovision, according to veteran songwriter Shay Healy.
Shay is well known for composing 'What's Another Year', Johnny Logan's winning entry in the 1980 song contest.
Singer Ryan Dolan has bravely stepped up to the plate this year for us and, after a run of poor results, is hoping to put an end to the losing streak in Malmö in May.
"He's quite a good singer, but unfortunately with the genre he's in, he's going to be saturated with similar people," Shay told The Diary.
As far as Shay's concerned, we're still residing in the "gimmicky" arena.
"We're lost out there and the phone vote doesn't help things. It's not corrupt, but it decides the whole things and is too moveable – particularly at the last minute.
"I think we or the contest, will never re-establish itself like the way it was."
When asked would he consider making a comeback on the Eurovision scene, the response was simple and to the point: "No, I think I'm cured."
Shay is still working in the music industry, producing songs and said that he has "no plans" to tune in and watch Eurovision this year.
