O'Connor: I don't like look of Gary
Sinead O'Connor has said she finds watching The X Factor "excruciating" because she can't stand judge Gary Barlow.
The Nothing Compares 2 U singer has blasted the Take That star for the withering looks he gives young aspiring singers.
Sinead said: "I find it hard to watch it because I can't stand the way some of the judges treat the performers.
"That guy Gary Barlow he has this horrible way of looking at people. If he was my son I'd be having a serious word with him about the way he's talking to people or treating people. I find it excruciating to look at."
The Irish singer agreed with suggestions that The X Factor audition process appeared to exploit people with mental health problems.
She added: "I don't think the people running the show are the kind of people who think about the effect of their behaviour upon people.
"But when you look at the panel they're crying all the time - it's like therapy."
The 44-year-old mother revealed she would not want her own child to go on The X Factor.
She said: "My daughter wants to be a singer. But I wouldn't want to put her into a situation like The X Factor where she would be vulnerable to being looked at by someone which is a huge thing for a 15 or 16-year-old to deal with."
:: Sinead will play the final Mencap's Little Noise Sessions at St John-at-Hackney church in London on Sunday November 27. Ticket at www.littlenoisesessions.org.uk.
