Oasis triumph in Britpop rematch
Oasis have triumphed over Blur after the battle of Britpop was re-staged, 15 years on.
The two bands were famously locked in conflict as they raced for the No 1 spot in 1995 with Blur's Country House winning out.
But now a poll of listeners for the launch of new station Absolute Radio 90s has found that Oasis's Roll With It is actually the most popular track after all these years.
The tussle between the two bands captured the imagination the first time round with people around the UK taking sides in the Blur v Oasis debate.
Although Blur won the battle first time around, it was Oasis who won the war when their album (What's The Story) Morning Glory? was released that year and went on to become the third best-selling album in British history.
Absolute breakfast show host Christian O'Connell set listeners the task of choosing the first record to be played on the new 90s station with a choice of Roll With It or Country House.
And it was the Oasis track which took the honours with 58 per cent of the votes.
O'Connell said: "Many a pint was sunk in my university's student union whilst debating Noel's poetry versus Damon's or Liam's bravado versus Alex's. It's good to know that debate isn't dead."
The new station, which can be heard on DAB and at www.absoluteradio90s.co.uk, plays the best tunes of that decade.
