MULLINGAR native Niall Horan was mobbed as he and band One Direction took their tour to Australia today.

The boyband, who shot to fame on the 2010 series of the X Factor, are continuing their gruelling world tour.

He’s already been voted the most popular member by American fans, and now it would appear that Ireland’s Niall has proved a hit down under too.

Fans began queuing days in advance to secure a good spot at the band’s Australian shows.

It is only the second time the band have played there – logistical reasons prevent many artists including the continent on their tour schedules.

The boys’ third studio album is due to be released later this year – song ‘Diana’ leaked off the record online over the weekend.

An extended ‘fan version’ of their movie was also released to cinemas over the weekend, including additional footage not originally screened.

The band announced last week that they would be adding an extra date to their Croke Park commitments next summer.
