Thousands of Niall Horan fans have been left disappointed after his Dublin gig sold out almost as soon as tickets went on sale.

It took mere minutes for all places at his August 29 gig in the Olympia Theatre to be snapped up, sparking instant calls for a second date to be added given the huge demand.

Some of the dates in his Flicker Sessions tour sold out in just 60 seconds, given the intimate size of many of the venues, with desperate fans asking him to release more dates.

Horan released a statement earlier in the week, calling on his fans to be patient as he tried to organise his tour schedule for the next year, prompting speculation that he will add a second leg to his initial world tour.

"It's been amazing to see such an amazing reaction to the Flicker Sessions," he said.

"Thank you so much as per usual for your love and support.

"For those of you wondering why I'm not stopping nearer you this time, please bear with me a little longer while I plan 2018.

"This is just the beginning and an opportunity for me to re-learn the craft of doing shows and touring in general.

"Please stay patient and there will be more exciting news soon. Love you all."

Some of his tickets were released in a pre-sale move on Wednesday for those who also ordered his forthcoming album.

They received a code that let them access the Ticketmaster site early.

The Dublin show will be his only Irish date, as the Mullingar man hits the road without his bandmates.

There was huge excitement among supporters of the This Town star after he confirmed his first solo tour will start next month ahead of his debut album release.

After performing in Dublin, he appears at London's Shepherd's Bush Empire, before dates in Australia, America, Mexico, Japan and Sweden.

He recently overtook ex-bandmate Harry Styles as the most-followed member of One Direction and is also up for a Teen Choice Award for Slow Hands.
