Country singer Nathan Carter surprised a super-fan with a home concert days before she passed away from cancer.

Carter was doing a show in Carlow last Sunday July 17 when he learned that a local woman Máire Jackman (49) who was seriously ill from cancer was a huge fan of his.

Máire had wanted to go see Nathan perform but was too ill as she was in the final stages of cancer, according to the Sunday World.

But Máire “immediately perked up” when Nathan performed for her by her bedside and serenaded the mum of three with her favourite song “Good Morning Beautiful”, the paper said.

Two days later, Máire passed away surrounded by her family at her home including her husband Ronan and three children Orla (19), Aine (13) and Oisín (15).

Her eldest daughter Orla praised Nathan Carter for surprising her and that she was “absolutely thrilled” by his visit.

“She went viral on Facebook with her photos with you and she was delighted because she used to mess with Oisín asking how many likes he got on his profile picture. The joke was that she had officially got more than Oisín with your visit,” Orla told Carter.

Just days after the cherished moment, Máire passed away.

Orla said her mum would have been “thrilled” to hear about the media’s attention surrounding Carter’s visit.

“She really was a great lady who was loved by many. Thank you so much once again, you really did make a very sick lady’s day.”
