This teacher is all of us.

Thousands of people have shared a video of his emotional reaction to the news of Prince's death.

Matthew Patterson heard the news while in the middle of teaching class and one of his students posted the video of his reaction.

He breaks down in tears and holds his head in his hands while Purple Rain plays on a projector in the background.

It sums up how many fans are feeling in the wake of the news.

Mr Patterson, from Georgia, told the New York Daily News that Prince's death hit him "like a ton of bricks".

He added, "I talked about what Prince meant to me as an artist and a brave performer and a person unwilling to take stuff from record companies.

"I’ve been listening to Prince since I was 7. … I must’ve spent thousands and thousands of hours listening to Prince. I was just a huge fan."

He said he told his students that it might be like Kanye West or Beyonce to them.
