Want to own Niall Horan's guitar? One Direction star's auction is in aid of Irish boy's life-saving operation
One Direction superstar Niall Horan is backing a major fund-raising drive for a young Irish boy’s life-saving lung transplant.
The pop idol has donated his personal guitar for sale in a bid to raise a staggering $1 million for four-year-old Cian McDonnell’s operation in America.
Shortly after his birth, little Cian was diagnosed with a rare condition called Dyskeratosis Congenita and went blind before his first birthday.
He underwent a bone marrow transplant in January 2013. In January of this year he was diagnosed with pinholes in his lungs after having problems breathing.
Mandy Shipp, secretary of the Hope For Cian fund-raising group, said Boston Children’s Hospital is now Cian’s only hope for a lung transplant – but the cost is $1milion (€890,000).
Mandy and the fund-raisers are now pleading to a wealthy individual or top company to make a major don ation to the fund in return for the Niall Horan souvenir guitar.
The guitar comes with a personal letter from the One Direction star’s dad, Bobby Horan, who handed over the guitar to the Hope For Cian with a personal letter.
Bobby writes: “This guitar is the one Niall used at home through his teenage years prior to finding fame with 1D. It is therefore unique and irreplaceable. I can confirm its authenticity.”
Mandy Shipp says: “We are so grateful to Bobby and Niall Horan because this is a huge boost to our fund. Now we are pleading for a major donation. Anyone interested can make contact through firstname.lastname@example.org.”
Cian this week returned home from Boston Children’s Hospital where specialists assessed his suitability for the major operation.
“The doctors Cian is under feel a lung transplant is an option, but the last thing we need before a final decision is a liver biopsy,” Cian’s mum, Lisa, said yesterday.
Time is not on the side of the youngster whose family has previously been informed he has just months to live and must undergo the transplant as soon as possible.
